Books For New Moms

Alright, the first section I have for you is books! New mothers might not have an excess of time to read, but when they can squeeze it in, I think these books could provide some valuable information.

1. What To Expect The First Year

The “What To Expect” series was an absolute game-changer for me when I was having my girls. So I think the book, ‘What To Expect The First Year‘ is a must-read for all new moms.

This book is essentially an instruction pamphlet for being a parent; and it includes so much valuable information. Examples include when and how to introduce solids to babies, what the best toys for them are, and even how to know they’re getting enough breastmilk. Plus, the book is laid out in a way that covers each month individually. So there isn’t too much to digest at once for overwhelmed new parents.

2. There Are Moms Way Worse Than You

Next up, is a more lighthearted book… Called ‘There Are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed A Fantastic Parent’!

The title summarizes what the point of the book is. But to let you know what goes into it… It’s essentially a funny, illustrated book for adults. It covers very real fun facts about mothers in the animal kingdom, like how giraffe mothers kick their offspring until they stand for the first time. And uses these facts to shine some light on the fact you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself!

It’s a lighthearted way to tackle mom guilt, which unfortunately, is all too common among new moms.

3. Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts

A mother’s life postpartum can be tough for many reasons, including the fact that a large majority of moms suffer from intrusive thoughts after birth. These thoughts can cause intense mom guilt, anxiety, and depression.

But the book ‘Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts’ tackles this topic in a very digestible way! In an effort to help new moms understand that they’re not alone in their struggles and thoughts, and those things don’t make them bad mothers.

4. Bible Promises For Moms

If the new mom you’re purchasing a gift for is religious, she might also find a lot of comfort in this book… ‘Bible Promises For Moms’. It includes hundreds of scriptures that relate to motherhood, and can be used as a pick-me-up whenever you’re feeling down as a parent.

5. The Simplest Baby Book In The World

And lastly, for the book section, we have ‘The Simplest Baby Book In The World’. Which is similar to the first book suggestion I gave, but it focuses more on keeping things as simple as possible. And it even includes illustrations to visually show you what to do, as well as checklists of products you may need for certain aspects of parenting.

You can obviously choose between this book, or ‘What To Expect The First Year’. But I honestly suggest getting both, just so you have all your bases covered!

Self-Care Gifts For New Moms

As fun, and helpful, as it is to read books… New moms also need time and space for self care! And this section is full of gift ideas for that.

1. PinkStork Postpartum Recovery Herbal Tea

PinkStork is a company that specializes in organic treatments for women, including many products related to postpartum. And I think this postpartum herbal tea, in particular, would make a great gift for a new mom in your life. (Although the brand has many other products you could check out as well.)

It contains 7 USDA organic herbs including red raspberry leaf (which helps with physical recovery) and fennel (to help your digestive system stay on track postpartum). It has no caffeine and is breastfeeding-friendly. And the tea can served hot or cold, depending on your tastes.

2. Body Restore Shower Steamers

One consistent way for a new mom to sneak in some self care is through showers, because you have to take those anyway! But there are ways to elevate this experience, to make it even more relaxing impactful. Such as using these shower steamers to indulge in a little aromatherapy.

This specific pack comes in spring inspired scents, such as lavender and jasmine, and includes six different packets!

3. Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit

This is one of those gifts for new moms that’s a little less on the fun side, and a little more on the practical side… And it is Frida Mom’s postpartum recovery essentials kit. I would’ve loved to have this kit after my first daughter’s birth. Because it pretty much has you covered as far as the healing process goes.

It contains eleven different necessities, including…

  • Disposable underwear
  • Cooling pad liners
  • Icy Maxi pads
  • Healing foam
  • And an upside down peri bottle!

4. Palmer’s Skin Recovery Set

Speaking of healing, I also want to suggest Palmer’s skin recovery set. This set includes four different products, all of which are aimed at healing the skin after birth. There’s a lotion for tightening the skin, a nursing butter that provides relief for breastfeeding moms, a bust cream that tightens up the skin around the chest, and a skin therapy oil to top it all off!

It smells of cocoa butter, and is made with high-quality ingredients like argon oil, vitamin E, and the aforementioned cocoa butter.

5. Lansinoh Breast Therapy Packs

And the final item I want to bring your attention to in this section is this set of breast therapy packs. They’re BPA free, latex free, lead free, and designed to be used in one of two ways…

If you’d like to cool the therapy packs, you can do so. And the result will be relief from pain and swelling that might pop up in the early days of breastfeeding. Especially if you’re engorged, suffering my mastitis, etc…

And if you’d like to put them in the microwave and warm them up, they can be used hot! In this mode, they help you let down your milk during breastfeeding. All the while providing comfort if your breasts are sore.

Items To Help With The Baby

The third section of this post is dedicated to items that can make taking care of a new little one much easier!

1. Momcozy White Noise Nightlight Machine

First up, we have an item that you could use far past the newborn stage due to its versatility… A white noise machine/nightlight by Momcozy.

This machine can play 11different white noises, 12 nature sounds, 8 lullabies, and 3 fan sounds. And the light has 7 different colors to choose from. Obviously you can change the brightness, volume, and other settings from your phone. Plus, you can even schedule it to turn on or off at certain times.

2. Parker Baby Diaper Caddy

If the new mom in your life doesn’t yet have a diaper caddy, you could also gift her this one by Parker Baby. Because diaper caddies are an absolute must for new parents!

It’s made from soft felt, is neutral in color (so it goes with everything), and it can hold everything from diapers to clothes and toys. You can also choose between medium and large options, depending on how much you need to carry.

3. VTech Baby Monitor

Along those same lines, a baby monitory is also a necessity. And this VTech baby monitor is one of the best on the market right now. It transmits audio both ways, has video (including night vision), doesn’t require Wi-Fi, and it can last for up to 19 hours after a full charge.

4. Frida Baby Medicine Pacifier and Syringe

Another necessity that’s often overlooked, since it’s more of a situational product, is a medicine pacifier and syringe for giving newborns any meds they may need! So if you don’t think the new mom you’re shopping for has one of these, check out this set by Frida Baby.

It includes the medicine pacifier, which is what actually dispenses the medicine to the baby, and a syringe to add the medicine to the pacifier. Both products are built in a way to provide accurate dosing, but without the hassle that usually occurs when trying to give a baby their meds.

5. MUKIN Baby Washcloths

Lastly for this section, we have this set of MUKIN baby washcloths. These soft, colorful washcloths can serve a variety of purposes for new moms aside from their main use. They can function is burp clothes, bibs, and even hand towels (to name a few)!

Sentimental Gifts For New Moms

Now it’s time for some gifts that can help new moms build memories that will last a lifetime…

1. First 5 Years Memory Book

Starting off this section with a bang, we have this memory book that helps moms record the first five years of a baby’s life.

To be specific, it presents moms with easy to follow prompts for recording their baby’s first memories and milestones. You can add pictures, keep track of first steps, update the book on your baby’s growth, and even talk about events like the baby shower. The result will be a keepsake that both moms and kids will treasure!

2. Baby Handprint/Footprint Ornament Kit

This ornament making kit allows moms to create two custom ornaments that can display their brand new baby’s footprint and handprint. It even includes stencils to help them carve in the baby’s name, and the date that the prints were created.

I wish I would’ve had these sets when my girls were babies, so don’t miss out!

3. Fujifilm Instax Mini

Taking pictures with your phone is great, but it’s oh so easy for those photos to get lost in a sea of other memories. So I think it’s a great idea to invest in a Fujifilm Instax Mini, or similar camera, in order to print out these pictures immediately and have them in their physical form.

The result of these cameras are essentially the same as polaroid photos, which I believe should make a comeback in general!

4. Mom’s One Line A Day Journal

This product, a one line a day journal for new moms, is great because it accounts for how busy mothers can get! It only requires about five minutes of a mom’s time per day, and provides her with enough space to record five years worth of memories of her child.

It’s similar to the memory book I shared earlier, but it doesn’t take quite as much time to pull off. Although the downside is that it doesn’t have as much space for photos or details! So choose wisely, based on your needs, or pick both if you think you could swing it.

5. Luna Bean Baby Hand and Footprint Kit

If you like the idea of keeping a hand and footprint of your baby, then you’ll like this Luna Bean kit that allows you to take a cast of your baby’s hand and foot! This results in a more 3D version of what the ornament kit does, and lets your permanently remember just how small your little one was!

Bonus Gifts

Now, for some random gifts for new moms that didn’t fit into any of the previous categories…

1. Momcozy Nursing Bra

Every new mom needs a good maternity bra, and this nursing bra by Momcozy is just that! It’s breathable, soft, and very adjustable (with no pesky underwire). Allowing new moms to easily unlatch the bra to breastfeed or pump on the go.

2. JoycuFF Morse Code Mom Bracelet

This present, a morse code mom bracelet, is a bit less practical than the previous gift idea. But I think that this bracelet, which spells out “Mama” in morse code, would delight any new mom. Since it gives her a subtle and chic way to display her new status.

3. Willow Tree Figure

I’ve always been a sucker for Willow Tree figurines. And this one, depicting a mom and dad holding a brand new baby, would make the perfect gift for new moms who feel the same about these little statues.

4. Dearfoams Mama Bear Slippers

Much like the morse code bracelet, these “mama bear” slippers are a great way to display a new mom status through clothing! My daughters got me these slippers a while back as a Christmas gift, and I love them! They’re extremely comfortable, and equally as cute.

5. inkArts Custom Blanket

To round out this entire list, we have this custom blanket by inkArts. With this item, you can submit ten personal photos to be displayed on a soft, flannel blanket. This would make an adorable gift if you could hold off ordering it until you have ten photos of the new baby.
