Making a To-Do List Work for You

I love making a to-do list and completing it. There are some days that I just have a running list in my head of what needs to be done, but I never seem to get as much accomplished if I don’t write it down. There is something about having that list in front of you, and seeing a couple of the things marked off it that just keeps you focused and motivated to complete the list. I know everybody isn’t a fan of the to-do list, my husband is one them. 😃Some people don’t like making to-do lists because they get overwhelmed easy with actually seeing how much needs to be done, or they think the only list they need is in their mind. The problem with having a to-do list just in your mind is that it’s too easy to get distracted, or lose motivation.
I encourage everybody to just try making a daily to-do list for a week. What would it hurt? Here are a few tips on making a to-do list work for you.

Start Small

Pick three things you want to get done during your day. I like to do two smaller jobs and one medium/large one. Like today for example my two small things were to pay bills and spend at least 15 minutes decluttering my bedroom. These were easy to complete and only took 30 minutes of my morning. The other thing was to deep clean my laundry/mud room and I knew this was going to take up a lot of my time. Guess what? I was able to get all three things marked off my list before lunch.

With each item checked off it gave me more motivation to keep going.

* I always have a TOP 3 that I want to get done, but then I add a few bonus things at the bottom of my list. *

Break Big Jobs Into Smaller Jobs

If you have a big job ahead of you just break it into smaller jobs that you can get done in one day. I’m getting ready to do a deep clean on my master bedroom. We have been working on our house and somehow our bedroom became the catch all over the last few months.

I know that I can’t deep clean it the way I want to in one day, not with the state it’s in now. So I’m spending a little time everyday getting rid of clutter and reorganizing. By this weekend I should have my room reorganized and very clean.

Reward Yourself

You’ve worked hard, completed your daily list all week, so reward yourself!
