The Boppy Newborn Lounger Recall Is Shining A Light On A Dangerous Issue
Back in 2021, a product called the Boppy Newborn Lounger was recalled. This recall was due to the suffocation risk that the pillow posed to babies. But sadly, the product has been responsible for two more infant deaths since the recall.
This is tragic news, but it’s also a bit confusing. After all, the products haven’t been sold since 2021 and all buyers were urged to stop using the pillow immediately.
The issue is Facebook Marketplace, where about 1,000 of these recalled products are listed per month! Obviously listing recalled products is illegal and thus the products are removed once they’re reported, but this doesn’t stop people from buying them before they’re taken down.
And the Boppy Newborn Lounger isn’t the only dangerous product that’s being listed on Facebook Marketplace. There are many others…
Including another notable product for worried mothers, the Fisher Price Rock n’ Play. This product has been the cause of one hundred infant deaths, and that count includes eight that have occurred since the product was recalled in 2019. And it’s STILL being listed on Facebook Marketplace.
All of this has caused many people to call on Facebook to put some safeguards in place, in order to stop the recalled products from being listed and sold. But unfortunately, as of now, it remains a serious issue.
Which is why I wanted to write this post, to let mothers know that not every baby product you see listed online is a safe one. So before letting your child use anything that you’ve bought from a resale site, please look the product up and make sure that it hasn’t been recalled!
And to all of you moms out there who might be selling some of your kid’s old products, please make sure they aren’t recalled as well. Because if we work together, we can hopefully cut down on this dangerous issue.
