Dangerous Fruit Pouches Are Posing A Risk To Children
On November 9th, a few different fruit puree pouches were recalled due to dangerous levels of lead contamination. To be specific, these were the products involved in the fruit pouch recall…
- WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree
- Schnucks-Brand Cinnamon-Flavored Applesauce Pouches And Variety Pack
- Weis-Brand Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches
You may notice that all of these pouches contain cinnamon, and that is believed to be the source of the lead at this time.
But despite this recall being active for several weeks, some of these products are still on shelves! And the number of affected children has recently climbed to over fifty. This has happened across twenty-two different states.
This is nothing to play around with, and if you see the recalled products in a store then you should avoid buying them! Plus, if you have them in your home already then please don’t let your children eat them.
Signs of lead poisoning can include things like a headache, vomiting, or anemia if the exposure was only for a short time. And for longer periods of exposure people could experience even more side effects, such as muscle aches, tremors, weight loss, etc.
In children, the long term effects of lead poisoning can be especially severe; including brain/nervous system damage, problems with hearing and speech, slowed growth, and more.
So I urge all of you parents to be aware of this fruit pouch recall and take the necessary precautions. And for more information, you can head to the FDA’s post about the topic.
