5 Great Fall Activities To Do With Your Kids
Fall has almost arrived! Which means we have cooler weather, colorful leaves, and the holidays to start looking forward to. As well as the opportunity for plenty of fun fall activities to enjoy as a family.
And the best part is that you can actually start planning out some of these activities now, so that you can optimize your family time when fall actually gets here. To help you out, I’ve compiled some of the best fall activities for families in this post!
1. Decorate For The Season
Although decorating for specific holidays is a tradition that most people follow to some degree, many families miss out on the fun of decorating their home for specific seasons. And if you are one of those families that have never seasonally decorated your home, then fall is probably the single best time to start!
For instance, you could place some pumpkins on the front porch, make a wreath for your door, or place some fake fall foliage around the house. There’s plenty of options! And Pinterest contains a lot more fall decor ideas if you need additional inspiration. (You could even check out my fall decorations board.)
The best part of all this is that you can get your kids involved in picking out the decorations and placing them in your home, or even crafting some of them with your help if you prefer handmade decor.
2. Pick Some Apples (And Have A Picnic)
Apple picking is one of the most classic fall activities out there, and for good reason! Not only are apple orchards beautiful places to spend time in, but there’s something intensely satisfying about picking your own apples straight from the tree.
And the experience is especially thrilling for kids, although they may need a little extra help reaching the trees.
You can also elevate the experience by adding a picnic to the day’s festivities. You’ll just need some supplies such as snacks, a picnic basket, and a picnic blanket; then you can set it up whenever the family needs a little break! Trust me, there’s no better place to have a picnic than the middle of an apple orchard.
3. Go On A Drive Or Hike
Another way to enjoy the scenery during the fall is to go for a drive, especially if you live in a place with some scenic routes through the mountains! You can enjoy the views through the windows, and even stop and park for a while if you find a place you really like.
Alternatively, you could plan a hike. Probably not anything too challenging if you’re hiking with kids, but even a small trek could provide some fresh air and exercise in addition to some really great views!
And remember that once winter arrives it could be harder to get out of the house, so take advantage of the cool (but not cold) weather that fall provides.
4. Have A Family Photoshoot
It’s no secret that fall is one of the most beautiful times of year, so why not take advantage of the stunning background that mother nature provides and stage a photoshoot for your family?
You could wear matching outfits, buy some fall-related props, and have fun with it! I will say though, that my top tip would be to hire a professional photographer. Because trying to take the photos yourself could end up being more stressful than fun. Trust me, I know from experience!
Just make sure you get some quality picture frames to place your new family photos in!
5. Take A Trip To A Pumpkin Patch
Taking your family to a pumpkin patch may seem similar in theme to the apple picking activity from earlier, but they offer two completely different experiences, don’t worry.
Because in addition to picking out some pumpkins to take home with you for decorations (or even to make some pies with), you can also enjoy several other activities if you pick the right patch to go to.
Many pumpkin patches offer things like hay rides, corn mazes, and even farmers markets! So you and your family could likely make a whole day out of it.
