How To Build A Kids Gardening Tool Set

Spring is officially here, so it’s that time of year where outdoor gardening is possible again. And if you’re looking to get your children involved with that hobby over the next few months, you’re going to need to assemble a kids gardening tool set. So today, I have a list of items that I think can help…

Kids Gardening Tools
Starting off with kids gardening tools, we have a few different options…
Kids Garden 4-Piece Tool Set
This 4-piece kids gardening tool set includes a rake, a leaf rake, a hoe, and a spade. Each tool has a head that’s made of real metal, so these pieces can actually be used for gardening despite their reduced size. And the handles are made of solid wood.
This set is meant for ages 7 and up, and it’s ideal for kiddos to use alongside their parents. As this helps them feel involved with the gardening, while still using tools that are built with their safety and size in mind.
Childrens 6-Piece Garden Tool Set
Alternatively, we have this 6-piece gardening tools set. It includes not only a rake, leaf rake, hoe, and spade… but also a spray bottle and some children’s gloves. Plus, if you buy the 7-piece version of this set instead, you can also get a wheelbarrow.
Much like the previous set, these tools are made with wood and real metal. So your little one can actually get some gardening done, especially with your assistance.
Gardening Tools Set For Toddlers
If you’re looking for a set that’s toddler friendly, I’d suggest this gardening kit for small kids. It includes three small tools (two differently shaped shovels and a tiny rake), all of which are made of real metal but sport rounded edges to keep your little one safe.
Additionally, this set comes with some extras… A pair of small gloves, some stakes to place in the garden that display the names of four different veggies, a watering can, a board book that talks about gardening, and a little tote to carry everything in.
Gardening/Beach Toy Tools Set
This 6-piece toy tools set can be used for “gardening” or at the beach, and is designed with toddlers in mind. It includes tiny, lightweight versions of…
- A spoon
- A fork
- A flat shovel
- A pointed shovel
- A rake
- And a cylinder!
Red Toy Wheelbarrow For Kids
Lastly, in addition to a full-on kids gardening tool set, I’d like to suggest this little red wheelbarrow. I think it’s a nice finishing touch on the gardening kit you’re putting together for your kiddo. And it’s completely functional, so your child can have fun wheeling around anything from dirt to their tools to random toys.
Kids Gardening Gloves
Next up, we have several options for kids gardening gloves. In case you didn’t choose a kids gardening tool set with gloves included…
Rubber Coated Gardening Gloves Pack
This set of rubber coated gardening gloves includes three different pairs, all of which sport cute designs with bright colors. They’re made to be breathable with a non-slip grip, so that your child can garden comfortably. Plus they feature an extended cuff with elastic wrists, to ensure that the gloves stay on and the dirt stays off your child’s hands.
Two Pair Pack Of Kids Gardening Gloves
Next, we have a pack of two pairs of gloves. These are also created to be breathable, and they feature foam rubber made from natural latex that helps with gripping. They’re comfortable, colorful, and perfect for a day of light gardening. And they come in a variety of different sizes as well.
Green Frog Gardening Gloves For Toddlers
Lastly, I couldn’t resist throwing these gardening gloves for toddlers into the mix. The one I linked features a cute frog design; but there are also bear, chicken, and fox options. And in addition to being adorable, these gloves are also breathable and grippy!
Kids Gardening Books
And finally, I picked out a few kids gardening books that you can use to teach your children about gardening or just to get them interested in the outdoors for this spring and summer.
Up In The Garden And Down In The Dirt
This book, Up In The Garden And Down In The Dirt, follows the story of a girl and her grandmother as they tend to a garden over a year’s time. It talks about what happens above the dirt, as well as below. So that kids get a better picture of the science behind gardening, whilst enjoying the lyrical words and beautiful pictures displayed within the book.
Exploring Nature Activity Book
Next up, we have Exploring Nature; which is an activity book with fifty different projects for your little one to foster a general appreciation for the outdoors. This can obviously encourage activities like gardening, but also simple things like taking walks in nature. So it’s a perfect read for this time of year, where the warm weather permits plenty of time outside.
Garden Time
This next book, Garden Time, is part of the bigger Hello World series which I highly suggest checking out if you have a toddler. These board books are designed to break down abstract topics into simple terms for very young children to learn basic concepts. The book Garden Time is a prime example of this, as it breaks down the science of gardening to give toddlers their first understanding of it.
Trees, Leaves, Flowers, and Seeds
Trees, Leaves, Flowers, and Seeds is an encyclopedia for kids on the topic of plants and gardening. It discusses facts, and has over 1,000 images to go along with them. Obviously, it contains a lot of information, so it’s best suited for kids aged 9 and up. And who knows, you might even learn something new yourself!
