How To Pull Off The Perfect Online Gender Reveal

There are many reasons why someone might choose to have an online gender reveal. Such as being unable to have their loved ones in one place, having an online community they want to share their gender reveal with, or simply not wanting to plan an in-person one.

But regardless of your reasoning, online gender reveals can be equally as special as in-person ones! And in today’s post, we’re going to talk about to create the perfect one.

Step One – Decide if you want it to be live.

The first decision you’ll need to make is whether or not you want your gender reveal to be live or recorded… And this will depend largely on your goals, as well as what else you have planned in terms of revealing your baby’s gender.

For instance, if you’re planning an online gender reveal for your family and friends, chances are… you want to host it in a way where you can see their reactions. Which can only be done live (or at the very least through a live showing) in an online context.

But, on the other hand, if you’ve already planned a special gender reveal to share with your loved ones and you simply want an online version to show everyone else…. Then a prerecorded version will probably be your choice!

Other things to consider here are…

• Your privacy needs. Do you want you and your partner to share this moment completely alone?
• How many people you’re planning to reveal the gender to. People with large extended families may choose the prerecorded route as well, and only share the live ordeal with a few select loved ones.
• How much effort you want to put in. For some people, gender reveals are extremely important! But for others, it’s less so. And if you’re one of those people or if you just don’t feel like putting a lot of effort towards planning the event, the prerecorded version could be less of a hassle.

Step Two – Choose your platform…

This section is going to be split into two sections, depending on what you’re looking for!

Gender Reveals For Close Family/Friends

For online/live gender reveals you want to plan for a certain group of people, your best option is to choose one of a few video chat platforms. Most of which are free, and easy enough to download or access.

A few that I can suggest are…

• Discord – You can hold video calls with up to twenty-five people per server on Discord, and up to one-hundred users can be a part of a call at once (but at that point, you won’t be able to see video of everyone).
• Skype – A Skype call can host up to one-hundred people in a call, both in voice and video!
• Zoom – With a free Zoom membership, you can host one-hundred people in a call (video or voice). And with upgraded memberships, you could actually host even more! But for most people, the original limit would suffice.

Gender Reveals For Social Media

Now, in terms of social media, you have options for both live and prerecording showings of your gender reveal. And you can, of course, post/host your reveal on as many of these apps and platforms as you wish!

A few options of note are…

• TikTok – You can simply post your prerecorded gender reveal here, or stream it live to your audience.
• Instagram – Through reels, photos, a live, or even a quick pop-up on your story… you can also share your reveal on Instagram.
• YouTube – You can post your reveal on YouTube, either privately (where only people you share the link with can see it) or publicly. And if you choose to publish it publicly, you can set it to a live premiere! So that you can watch and have access to a live chat as the prerecorded video is being showed live. Plus, you can stream a live gender reveal on YouTube as well.

Step Three – Plan your gender reveal!

Now for the fun part… deciding which method you want to use to reveal the gender of your baby. There are endless options here, but I’m going to share a few ideas I personally love with you! (All of which are obviously applicable for online gender reveals.)

Fill Something With Confetti

Some of the most classic gender reveal methods have to do with confetti that’s colored to represent the baby’s gender. This confetti can be stuffed inside a balloon and then popped, placed inside a piñata that someone can hit with a baseball bat, or even placed inside things like decorative eggs that people crack for the big reveal.

And if you don’t want to deal with the cleanup of confetti, you could also fill up a box with balloons of the appropriate color and then release them on the day of the reveal. Preferably this would be done inside though, so the balloons can be contained!

Bake, Bake, Bake

Lastly, an extremely popular gender reveal style has to do with some sort of food that includes the either pink or blue filling. Usually this is a cake that you slice to reveal the color, a cupcake that you bite into to find the filling, etc. I’ve even seen some people get their dogs involved by making a dog-friendly cake for their canine to chomp into.

Final Thoughts About Online Gender Reveals

Online gender reveals can be just as meaningful, and memorable, as those held in person. And they can also be a great way to let those in your extended circle know about the gender of your baby without you having to throw a massive party.
