The Benefits Of Yoga For Moms and Their Kids
Yoga is certainly a popular pastime. It’s a practice that has been around for centuries and still continues to grow in popularity. The beauty of yoga, and the reason it captures the attention of so many, is that not only does it exercise your body but it also exercises your mind. Another great part of yoga is that there are many different styles of yoga, arguably there’s a style for everyone and if you try enough out you’re guaranteed to find one that suits you the best.
Today we’re going to be talking about how yoga can be beneficial for moms and their children, but for once… we’re going to start with the moms. 😂 Because whether or not you decide to introduce yoga to your kids or not, I believe all mothers should at least try yoga once to see how they like it. After all, a healthy and happy mom makes for happier children.
Yoga gives moms a well needed break –
Possibly the biggest reason why a mother needs yoga is simply for the break it provides from her daily life. One thing that all mothers know is that there’s always something else to do, if there isn’t a good reason to take a break then a lot of moms won’t. But they really need to. Everyone needs to take some time for themselves, especially a hard working mommy.
Taking even a ten minute break during the day to do some yoga could reset you if you’re having a rough day, and help make you more patient and connected with your kids. Just keep remembering that what benefits you, will benefit them too. It’s an important thing to keep in mind if you’re like me and have a hard time justifying things if it only has to do with you.
Yoga is great for your body –
Most people already know this one, but it’s still worth noting that yoga is great for you physically. It helps build strength, which comes in handy for all the metaphorical and literal heavy lifting that moms have to do on a day to day basis.
It can also lead to increased flexibility, and ease things like joint and back pain which can be common mothers. And additionally, many people who enjoy doing yoga will start to embrace other healthy lifestyle changes such as adjustments to their diet which could be beneficial for both the mother and the entire family.
It keeps you in the present –
As a mother it can be so easy to get busy with your day to day tasks and forget to enjoy yourself, or start planning for your kids future and miss the little moments that are in the here and now. Yoga helps promote mindfulness since that is essential to a worthwhile yoga practice, and this will help keep you grounded so that you can enjoy your time with your kids even more.
But now let’s talk about the benefits of actually doing yoga with your kids.
A lot of you may decide you want to include your little ones into your new hobby. And although I would suggest that you still take time to do yoga privately as well, it is a great idea to have your kids learn yoga as well. So now let’s focus our attention on the benefits of doing yoga with your kiddos.
It’s a fantastic bonding experience –
Bonding with your kids is undoubtedly important, and so is building memories. But it’s hard to do those things when you’re not able to dedicate quality time to spending with them and in addition to that, kids can often be easily distracted. Yoga is something that requires a lot of concentration from you and your kids so it will ensure that you’re fully present in the moment together.
Plus there’s something special about being able to teach your kids something, especially if it will help instill a healthy habit into their lives. And if your child starts to associate good memories with yoga then they’re that more likely to keep doing it throughout their lives.
It helps build your child’s confidence –
Confidence can be hard to come by, even for adults, but for kids it’s even harder. They have to be taught confidence. The more strength they build doing yoga and the better they get at it, the more confident they’ll become because building a skill is one of the best ways to form confidence in kids.
And the fact that they’re forming the skill alongside you will help them not become discouraged and give up, which could have the opposite effect and cause them to lose confidence in themselves.
And don’t forget the physical benefits –
A lot of people believe that just because a child is young that they don’t need exercise as much as adults, but exercising is important for kids as well and yoga is a very gentle one to start them out with. Yoga will help them build strength, gain flexibility, and also help to ease anxiety or stress if they’re suffering from either.
Overall –
Yoga would make a great addition to your routine as a mother, and if you decide to introduce it to your children as well then it’s even better. Doing yoga together will lead to countless precious moments, bonding opportunities, and laughs. As well as make both mother and child healthier, happier, and more grounded.
