1. The Night Before Christmas

Starting off strong, we have The Night Before Christmas. Which I read to my girls every single Christmas Eve, when they were small. This is undoubtedly one of the most classic pieces of Christmas-related literature out there. And takes the form of a whimsical little poem that details Santa Claus coming to visit during Christmas Eve.

2. I Got The Christmas Spirit

I Got The Christmas Spirit is a relatively new Christmas-themed picture book that follows a very generous little girl as she explores the city with her mother. The two see so many fun, Christmas related things and spread the joy of the holiday wherever they go. She even gets to meet Santa!

This book has a great lesson within it, about the true spirit of giving to others.

3. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Would it really be a list of the best Christmas books for kids if I didn’t include the Grinch? I think not! So therefore, I’m nominating How The Grinch Stole Christmas to be a part of your holiday reading routine.

This is another absolute classic, and as the title suggests, tells the story of how the Grinch attempts to ruin Christmas but is won over in the end. The story is also told in rhymes, which adds an extra bit of whimsy.

4. The Polar Express

Speaking of classics, The Polar Express is another that you should consider adding to your list. This book contains stunning visuals with an intriguing story that any kid would dream of happening in real life… One of Santa dropping by and taking children on a magical train ride to the North Pole!

5. The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition

Now, if there was one book that totally transformed my girls’ Christmas experience, it was definitely The Elf on the Shelf. This book is meant to accompany a very special little doll, aka your child’s very own elf on the shelf. And it explains the lore behind the little elf, and serves to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

I know that some of my kids favorite Christmas memories had to do with their elf on the shelf, and it really served to bring the magic of Christmas alive for them. Even when they found out that I was behind the little elf’s movements the whole time, they still requested that he be brought out every Christmas to keep the tradition alive.

6. How Does Santa Go Down The Chimney

How Does Santa Go Down The Chimney isn’t just the name of a recently released Christmas book, it’s also a question that many children end up asking. So why not answer the question with the help of this witty book?

If this book had been available when my girls were kids, I’m sure it would’ve been a hit in my household!

7. The First Christmas

This next suggestion is specifically for religious parents who want to make sure their little one understands why they celebrate Christmas. It’s called The First Christmas, and it’s a board book with pop-ups for your child to interact with!

It tells the story of the night of Jesus’s birth, and is perfect for toddlers and very young children.

8. Luna Loves Christmas

Luna Loves Christmas follows a little girl who’s parents are divorced. She normally enjoys two separate Christmas celebrations as a result, but in this book, she gets to experience something a little different! Since her entire family is coming together to volunteer at a community Christmas dinner.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this story is really heartwarming and shines a light on how Christmas can bring people together. Plus it gives some much needed seasonal representation for blended families.

9. It’s Christmas Everywhere: Celebrations From Around The World

And speaking of representation, the next Christmas book for kids that I want to discuss is It’s Christmas Everywhere: Celebrations From Around The World. This is a unique board book that unfolds to create a mini Christmas tree that actually stands on its own!

And as the title of the book suggests, it covers various Christmas traditions from around the world. Which is perfect for educating your little one on other cultures, and how they celebrate the holiday.

10. A Charlie Brown Christmas

Of course, I have to end this list with one of my absolute favorites… A Charlie Brown Christmas. I’m a fan of anything Charlie Brown related, so I think this book is a must have and an old classic.

As far as the storyline goes, it’s all about Charlie Brown’s friends and family teaching him how to appreciate the beloved holiday in all its glory.

Final Thoughts

I hope you found a book in this list of Christmas books for kids that suits your tastes, and that you want to read to your little one during this holiday season. Because this is truly one of the most magical times of the year, especially for little kids. Merry Christmas everyone!
